Don’t mess with me

Don’t mess with me
Where am I from
A ranch in Nebraska
A stay in New Salem

I have a long history
Just do good things
Why would you do bad
Do you want my ancestors mad

We go back to the Mayflower
Many of them were pilgrims
We go back to Jamestown
Even we were Native American

I can go farther back too
But starting in America will do
They were Quakers, Baptists
Lutherans, Catholics and Jews

Don’t mess with me
Where am I from
GG Sinco lived with Lincoln
Even sharing the same bed

I have a long history
Just do good things
Lincoln voted for him to be
Constable of New Salem

Morse helped the Underground Railroad
They were deacons for another load
Mark was uncivil war riding in the cavalry
He was captured and escaped times three

We were in many wars before
There was a nice ranch in Nebraska
Taking ships to our fine shore
Digging coal was quite the chore

After being in old Tennessee
They were running cows in Missouri
Riding horses alongside wagons
Planting a fruit orchard in Junction

My grandpa from Minnesota
Rode to Colorado on horses
He learned to paint in LA
Fishing, hunting along child’s play

The coal miner ranched at Antlers
Riding to the pub until he got a Model T
Playing the upright grand, feeding helpers
Stringing up beef on the trail in a high tree

Don’t mess with me
Where am I from
A Franklin ranch in DeBeque
I worked there really quick

Keep it way from the bears
Healthcare insurance saved his life
Along the canal by his few acres
His brother let me ride ol’ Dove with no cares

One grandpa had a ski area in Pando
It was taken over by the army it seems
My other one did get asbestos, oh no
My ma and pa did good for the losses in their teens

The parents made their way
My father did take flight
Missiles, Saigon he was okay
Mount Sopris was quite a sight

There is so much more to say
My country needs you to be
Always, always better every day
We want our country to be free

Love love
It’s true
