What really is a cowboy

Where do we go from here
Things have gone south for years
People I know seem lost
They have lost how to be sincere

That’s what happens when
You don’t keep remembering
Where your folks come from
Which can make for lonesome

My folks have been wandering
They have been trying to find
A place to raise their families
They want to be at ease

I started out a cowboy
My mom raced in rodeo
Ridin’ Pardner gave her joy
My horse play was just for show

I learned to love for good
I was put on guard for evil
I think I was raised like I should
Hoping good for all including you

The world was always changing
Though some things seemed not to
Many sports and games be playing
My sense of caring never through

What really is a cowboy
Someone who works and cares
And, they are not only a boy
The have plenty of heart that shares

We are tough and ready
We know some people are unsteady
I think most know to be
Ready to help through a rough sea

That being a cowboy is just
When we live in among many
Always being ready is a must
Finding a way to treat others kindly

Sometimes we live in the country
Sometimes the country lives in us
My folks always liked to be there
And they were always ready to share

They always were learning
Finding out what they could
That would help their earning
We were less likely misunderstood

We can get along with you
Just don’t tell us what to do
When it comes to our beliefs
We’ll be there for you in relief

I started out a cowboy
My mom raced in rodeo
Ridin’ Pardner gave her joy
My horse play was just for show

I learned to love for good
I was put on guard for evil
I think I was raised like I should
Hoping good for all including people

Sometimes we live in the country
Sometimes the country lives in us
My folks always liked to be there
And they were always ready to share

They always were learning
Finding out what they could
That would help their earning
Like a good plainsman would

We can get along with you
Just don’t tell us what to do
When it comes to our religion
We’ll be there for you helpin’

Just like I was raised
We will keep our faith
I am an adapted version
Cowboy, country, plainsman

I love you
One loves me
Love love
It’s true
